Breadth 11

He used mixed media with photos paint and news or magazine clippings. The peices are more about poltical things. I only liked a few of his peices, i liked the more colorful ones. I think they are more attracting and interesting. The other ones are too boring for my taste.

Breadth 10

The beauty of the photo is what makes a good peice of art.Instead of just experiencing it you have to see it and feel the emotion. People make art to express themselves it matters because it shows your feelings.Art and beauty are essentially related but art does not have to be beautiful. natural objects arent neccesarily works of art until taken into a different manner. Art work is good depending on your individual taste and style. Art means the same thing in every culture, group, and society. Both the artist and the viewer determine the meaning of art work its all about perspective. Judging artwork doesnt always matter but sometimes critisism is good. People obtain their beliefs about art from their emotions.

Breadth 8

You can create a more peaceful world through imagery by telling a story. People dont realize the reality and harshness of conflicts today such as war, consumption, economy. Photos can show it how it really is, brutality and all.

American consumerism is out of control, i dont think anyone realizes how bad it reallly is. With my photos i will show brutality and reality to tell a story as i take the role of a photojournalist.

Three things i can do to be a more active photographer:
1) I can carry my camera with me everywhere i go, especially when im out in the community.
2) I can get more involved by paying attention and setting up shots.
3) I can be very critical with my shots and positioning to make the photo stronger.

This was a very interesting film. I really enjoy the fact that they have a story to go withtheir pictures. Every picture tells you something different. I also liked how they didn't only photograph happy things or nice things but they photographed not so nice things as well, photos that really reach out and send a message such as the soldier and the slumps and the africa pictures with the elephants.

NY times:

Obama: These photos of Obama are very, very personalbe. They are up close and they definately make you think. It looks like these photos are staged but they're not! There is alot of very good shots.

Cheney: The photo of Cheney is not very personable and it doesn't tell you very much.. he's cooking.. okay so what? I think there needs to be more to the picture.

The Indecisive Image...
Defying basic notions of what photography can be... the idea of photographic "truth".
Bruer is the most radical of the process photographers, he finds to work outside the rules.
Abstract photography can be thought of as working with accidental chances.
There are many different techniques you can use to even set up the shot such as motion blur, macro, depth of field, and shutter speed.
Abstraction goes directly from idea to object, without making reference to anything.
When using abstract photography most artists seem to stick to one theme.

What i learned:
-You should take notes of the visual elements surrounding your subject.
-Backdrop is very important, there are many questions to ask yourself.
-Consider value: contrast between sublect and backdrop.
-Normally it's best to ensure that whatever you are photographing is lighter or darker than the backdrop.
-Break rules to catch viewers eye or to deliver thematic messages.
-Try not to use busy backdrops, they distracts from the image. Sometimes it's good to break the rules.
-Collect realistic and abstract shots, colorful and plain, natural and manufactured.
-Effective composition gives the eye a comftorable visual environment for exploration.

Breadth 4

1. I will include a person, most likely in all of the photos.
2. I will use objects people tend to fear.
3. The emphasis of the photo is the person, secondly what is feared.
4. I will use depth of field and rule of thirds.
5. I will use spotlights and far distance or natural lighting.

Breadth 3

"Behind every photograph is an idea." Every photograph has its origin and desire. It's easy for photographs to fail to communicate ideas. There needs to be a language in photography. The evoltion of images strted from still pictures to films and cinemas. You can learn compisition from even learning a new language. The quality of education in the visual arts provided through schools is sadly defficiant. There are not rules of compisition, but rather guidlines. A myth of compisition is that only the talented few can master the techniques of good compisition. It's pretty neat to think that when the the shutter is snapped the image is frozen. A photographer should also try to avoid traditional shots. A photographer should try to say something with their camera. A photographers image must convey some theory, idea or message.

Static shapes can be used to produce a peaeful landscape design. Color appeals directly to our senses and emotions. Color comes from light. white grey and black are called neutrals. Adding white results in tints. Three demensional space has width, heigth and depth. Flowing space is not always clear. The flat surface on which a human works is called the picture plane.

Breadth 1

I learned quite a bit from these readings. I thought line shape and form were all simple elements. But there is much more to them , they have more in depth meanings.
